In our early years, Matt (left) had a big idea to combine the Rubik's Cube with chess to create a truly mind-boggling new game. Dylan (middle) and Miles (right) helped Matt work through the early prototypes, and get the company to where it is today!
Our Story
Hey there, I'm Matt Fan, founder of Quarky. Quarky started as a high school side project, with the invention of the "Professor's Chess Cube", a 5x5x5 Rubik's cube with detachable pieces, perfect for playing cool new games on the cube's surface. My friends Dylan Kahouk and Miles Smith helped me to polish up my first prototype, and by the end of my senior year, we had a pretty solid game that was a lot of fun to play.
At that point though, Quarky was still just a hobby. Fast forward to my freshman year at the University of Maryland, and I decided it was time to turn this hobby of mine into a real company. After getting involved with Startup Shell, a student-run incubator on campus, the fun started, and at the start of 2017, Quarky officially became a company!
I am really excited to share Quarky with the world, and hope you will join us in making the world a smarter, more fun, quarkier place!
